A man from Fife has died after being shot multiple times in the Caribbean, local police have said. Daniel Vettrino, from Dysart, was killed following an incident on the island of Canouan in St Vincent and the Grenadines. The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force said it responded to reports of shots being fired in the Gym Hill area at about 23:30 on Wednesday. Vettrino, 37, was later pronounced dead by a local medical officer. Police said a post-mortem examination would be carried out and an investigation had been launched. A family member described Vettrino as "much loved by everyone" and "a pure soul who only wanted success and happiness for all of those around him". They said: "He has touched the lives of so many people, from his hometown in Fife to all corners of this world." A spokesman for the foreign office said: "We are supporting the family of a British national who died in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and we are in contact with the local authorities." Canouan is one of 32 islands making up the St Vincent and the Grenadines archipelago. It is only 3.5 miles (5.6km) long and about 1.2 miles (1.9km) wide and sits between the main island of St Vincent and Grenada.
