Two people were killed Monday in a new targeted strike on a vessel traveling on a “known narco-trafficking” route in the Caribbean Sea, according to U.S. Southern Command (Southcom). The deaths mark the latest escalation in the Trump administration’s military campaign to crack down on alleged drug-trafficking boats. The U.S. military has killed at least 188 people in over 50 boat strikes as part of this military operation since its onset last September. Last week, the Pentagon killed three alleged “narco-terrorists” in a boat strike in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Southcom’s announcement of the Monday strike repeated the language of previous operation updates. The command center said the ship was involved in drug trafficking operations and was operated by “Designated Terrorist Organizations” in a post on social platform X . The military also included video footage depicting a boat moving forward before exploding into flames. “Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Caribbean and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations,” the military command wrote. “Two male narco-terrorists were killed during this action. No U.S. military forces were harmed.” The Trump administration has not provided proof that any of the boats targeted in these operations were carrying narcotics.
